As the weather gets hotter and hotter, we all start to rely on our home air conditioning systems for a fresh, comfortable environment. While we are basking in the cool breezes coming from our vents, we don’t give a thought to all the work the air conditioner is doing. Day in and day out, our HVAC systems work hard to keep the air in our homes at that perfect temperature and humidity level. We don’t usually stop to think about the wear and tear that constant performance can put on the machinery that makes an air conditioner work well.
Just like a car, air conditioning systems need a little TLC. Without regular maintenance, small issues can develop into huge problems. And just as with cars, routine maintenance tends to be a smarter investment than waiting for a significant part failure. That is why we recommend that homeowners consider professional maintenance twice a year – once in the spring before cooling season arrives, and again in the fall for a check of your heater.
We offer an exceptional service called the Precision Tune-Up. This comprehensive inspection and cleaning of your HVAC system keeps things running safely, reduces the risk of an emergency breakdown, and improves the energy efficiency of your air conditioner and heater.
Do I Really Need a Precision Tune-Up?
Your air conditioner and heater run about 3,300 hours every year. That is like driving your care over 200,000 miles at 65 miles per hour. Would you be willing to drive your car that long with zero maintenance? Neither would we.
We encourage clients to regularly maintain their HVAC systems because:
You End Up Saving Money: Routine maintenance means catching small problems before they become big ones. Dealing with more minor issues generally means saving money in the long run, both on parts and on cash lost on energy bills due to an inefficient air conditioning and heating system.
You Keep Your Home Safe: Air conditioners can flood, causing water damage and potential mold issues. Coils, ducts, and filters become dirty, putting your home’s air quality at risk. Gas furnaces may develop carbon monoxide problems. With preventative maintenance, you lower the risk of these problems, keeping your home and your family safe.
You Stay Perfectly Comfortable: No one wants to deal with a failed air conditioner when it is over 100° outside. With a semi-annual tune-up, you lessen the chances of your HVAC system suddenly failing. If there is a problem, preventative maintenance means you will likely know about it before the worst happens.
You Validate Your Warranty: Did you know that most HVAC warranties require that regular maintenance is done to keep the equipment in good working order? With Precision Tune-Ups, you have proof of maintenance that we keep on record, just in case you ever need it.
What Do You Check During a Precision Tune-Up?
Our inspection and cleaning takes about 1 ½ hours. During this time, our technicians thoroughly inspect and clean your system, including:
Electrical Component Inspection: When the electrical components of your HVAC system fail, you are left with a system that does not operate properly. Our techs go beyond a visual inspection, double checking wires, connections, and looking for hidden damage. If we find loose connections, we will fix them before leaving.
Safety Switch Inspection: No one likes a potential flood (and water damage) on their hands. Safety switches prevent your air conditioner from potentially flooding your basement or attic. We double check these switches to avoid costly replacements and home repairs.
Coil Inspection and Cleaning: One of the quickest ways to increase the efficiency of your air conditioner is to clean those coils! If they are clogged with dirt and yard debris, the air conditioner cannot dehumidify the way it needs to for you to have a comfortable home. We use a unique cleaning solution and gentle pressure to clean the coils without damage. And if we find snakes, we will remove those too.
Parts Inspection: Using visual inspection and diagnostic equipment, our technicians will double check the components of your air conditioner or heater to make sure the parts are in good running order. For parts that are failing, our technicians will discuss the problem and provide information on possible solutions. If you are a member of our Complete Comfort Club, you receive a discount on replacement parts if issues are found during a Precision Tune-Up.
Ductwork Inspection: Our tune-up focuses not only on your HVAC system running smoothly but also on simple steps to improve efficiency and air quality. Our technicians visually inspect the accessible ductwork in your home and let you know if they find any problems.
Furnace Inspection & Cleaning: During the winter months, our technicians focus their attention on keeping your home warm and safe. Gas furnaces are inspected and cleaned to prevent any problems in the chillier months of the year.
Pilot Light Inspection: If you have an older furnace that requires the pilot light to be manually lit, we are happy to do that as part of our Precision Tune-Up service.
Carbon Monoxide Testing: For clients with a gas furnace, we double check to make sure there are no carbon monoxide buildup issues in your home.
Thermostat Battery Change: Did you know your thermostat is likely not hard-wired into your home’s electrical system? When thermostat batteries die, it can seem like your whole system has shut down for no reason. We make sure you have fresh batteries so that you never panic when they run out of power.
Filter Change: Our technicians will provide a fresh, clean filter to keep your HVAC system breathing easy and functioning with unrestricted air flow.
System Cycle at the End: Our technicians do one final check to make sure that your heating and cooling systems are working exactly the way that they should. If there is a problem, they will be on hand to fix it.
